About Us
Health’s Angels: Personal Stories About Womxn’s Health is a recurring live show in Washington DC that allows womxn to share personal stories about physical, mental, and/or emotional health. We have womxn who have been storytellers for decades, and some who have never done anything like this before.
But they know the importance of sharing their stories. Womxn’s lives are at risk. Womxn are dying during childbirth. Womxn are not being believed by their doctors and dying because of it. Womxn are told to push through their pain. Mental health isn’t being taken seriously. Meanwhile, we are under a political climate that is threatening to take away our reproductive rights.
We’ve created a space in the hopes that womxn can feel liberated by sharing their stories reclaim their experiences in a supportive environment. The more we tell our personal health stories, the more other womxn can connect with one another, feel less alone with their own experiences and feel empowered to share their own. This way, we can make others take our pain more seriously, destigmatize mental health, and normalize abortions and birth control.
Our project is aimed at highlighting the experiences of people whose voices are all too often ignored or silenced. We at Health’s Angels would therefore like to emphasize that our organization and event welcomes trans and cis womxn, as well as other queer, trans, genderqueer, gender non-conforming, and non-binary individuals. We believe that feminism must be trans-inclusive!
Let’s build our communities and feel empowered. Come to our shows, share your stories, and reach out to us. We want to hear from you. Contact us at healthsangelsdc@gmail.com.
